The vineyards meander through terraces hidden in small mountain clearings, surrounded by nature, and only accessible by four-wheel drive vehicles or on horseback.

Bodegas Saura has a project to maintain and care for different species and their habitat that lie at the heart of the project philosophy. These vineyards and their fruits are nothing without the untamed nature that surrounds them.
The Bodegas Saura vineyards are in a unique haven for numerous species such as the Barbary sheep, the mountain goat, the wild boar, as well as vultures, eagles and owls.
Built on the site of an Iberian temple and a large stone quarry, the Chapel of the Incarnation is one of the Murcia region’s most significant treasures. This, and other sites dating to the Roman period in the municipality of Caravaca, document the scale of the Roman population in this part of Murcia.
The Black Cave in the hamlet of Encarnación de Caravaca is twelve metres wide and twelve metres deep. Since it was discovered in 1990, the remains of hominids dating back more than 780,000 years, possibly 990,000 years, have been found.
This interesting fortress was built around the XII or XIII centuries to take advantage of a small cave or natural shelter open on the west face of Villaricos hill. It is in an eminently strategic spot, right where the old road linking Caravaca to Granada narrows. Once upon a time, he who possessed this fortress controlled this route.
There are 35,437 hectares of vineyards in
the Region of Murcia, a place with an excellent climate, suitable soil and the
right people to grow grapes and produce high-quality wines. A broad variety of
soils and climates is reflected in a wide range of red, rosé and white wines.
Bodegas Saura is in the municipality of Caravaca de La Cruz, one of the world’s five holy cities and home to the unique cross that bears its name. Of enormous tourist, gastronomic and natural interest, Caravaca de la Cruz welcomes visitors throughout the year, attracted by its culture, landscape and hospitality.
Caravaca has fascinating archaeological and anthropological sites, still studied and visited by international experts.
This large municipality in Murcia has numerous natural spots and is surrounded by mountains. More than half of the municipality is above 800 metres, and more than a third is above 1,000 metres.
Its beautiful, intricate natural landscapes form a land full of contrasts, protected fauna and extreme climates typical of the Mediterranean highlands..
The vineyards are found within the Bullas Designation of Origin. A land with a time-honoured relationship with wine, with vestiges of wine production dating back more than 2,600 years.
Monastrell is the local and predominant variety in this Designation of Origin.
ESTATE
The vineyards of Bodegas Saura are in a unique enclave, home to numerous species such as the Barbary sheep, the mountain goat, roebucks, wild boar, vultures, eagle and eagle owl. Along the winding paths that connect them, you may be treated to fleeting glimpses of these creatures, the sole witnesses to the development of the vineyards.
A trip through the mountains in an off-road vehicle or on horseback is a magnificent opportunity for such encounters and to observe the vineyards in small mountain clearings.
Bodegas Saura has a project to maintain and care for these species and their habitat, which is an intrinsic part of the project philosophy. These vineyards and their fruit would not be unthinkable without the untamed nature surrounding them.
PLOTS
The Monastrell and Grenache varieties grow in high-altitude vineyards since the estate is located between 780 and 1200 metres above sea level. The arid climate typical of the location stresses the vines, creating unique fruit and singular wines.
A trip in an off-road vehicle or on horseback through the mountains is a magnificent opportunity to spot the local wildlife and to observe the vineyards in their small mountain clearings.
The estate also has many hidden caves, including La Cueva Negra (The Black Cave). This archaeological and anthropological site is approximately one million years old, dating from the end of the Early Pleistocene or Lower Pleistocene. One cave contains human remains (Homo Heidelbergensis), Palaeolithic tools and fauna. In addition, they contain two extremely important finds: the oldest European hand axe and the earliest remains of man-made fire outside Africa.
